5 biggest 2021 hair trends

We caught up with the boss, Maria, to get the lowdown on the styles that everyone is going to be asking for in 2021.

So it turns out that 2021 hasn’t started exactly as we’d like…

I mean... we’d much rather be in the salon transforming your locks and making you feel like a million dollars.

But fret not, our time in lockdown is not wasted. We caught up with the boss, Maria, to get the lowdown on the styles that everyone is going to be asking for in 2021 (once we’re back up and running).

“I don’t think it’s any secret that the last couple of years have been all about the balayage and foilyage. Whilst the balayage look isn’t going to disappear overnight, 2021 is going to bring with it a whole host of new (and old) experimental styles that will have you screaming ‘because I’m worth it. The end of 2020 already saw the trend of more block colours and striped highlights patterns in different palette shades and full head highlights.”

Full head Scandi blonde

When it comes to blondes, Scaninavian blonde has always been seen as a ‘premium’ blonde. It’s seen as the ultimate ‘pure blonde’ - a platinum blonde with a super ‘clean’ look.

“A full head Scandi blonde means all the same colour from roots to ends. You can customise the colour to be more creamy, pearly, buttery or icy depending on what suits your skin tone. This look is often best suited to those with lighter, fairer skin however the ‘range’ of different hues you can try this colour in do allow others to try it too.”

90s style chunky highlights

Remember the chunky highlight trend that was big in the 90s? Think Spice Girls and the Olsen Twins vibe. Well, it’s making a comeback.

“Everyone from Kim Kardashian to J-Lo has been repping the chunky look and it’s about to make a comeback in a BIG way this year. In contrast to soft baby lights and balayage, this face framing technique is unapologetically bold and brave.”

The big chop

“People are so sick of being indoors over that last year that in 2021, people are going to be embracing those shorter choppy styles. If 2020 was the year of the grown-out mane, 2021 is going to be the year of the short and tamed.”

Do you dare get the chop?

Afro and crimping

Big is back when it comes to volume.

“Also known as ‘mermaid waves’, crimping has made a real comeback over the last six months. Team this with a choppy, collar bone cut and you’ve got 2021’s hottest trend right there.”

Mocha hair

Brunette hair has characteristically got a bad rep for not being the most exciting of hues, but brown doesn’t have to be boring

“Coffee-inspired colours have become a colour favourite in the hairdressing world. Mocha hair involves using a deliciously rich base colour and combining it with highlights and lowlights to add an element of dimension to your locks.”
